Mummy dearest28.3.07So, I've been hiding out at home for the past 3 1/2 weeks or so because my parents have been in town. Well actually, first mum, then dad. So it has been a busy, or rather, a homely time for me. I was hoping for a family dinner of some sorts given that the folks were in the same city, same postcode and all, however unpleasant it may have been. But nope, looks like I'll have to wait till the brother's wedding for that to happen. But I love it when mum comes. I LOVEEEEEEEE my mummy dearest (of course i love dad too). It's nice to come home to mum's home-cooked meal, and to wake up to mum's brekkie. =)
Things that mum has taught me this time around: 1. How to make a mean chicken pot pie - although that doesn't mean I will be making it on my own anytime soon. 2. How toilet mats can be germ traps. 3. How never to buy anything electrical e.g. light bulbs from the $2 store or from reject shop. We bought one of those energy saver fluoroscent light blubs from the reject shop, thinking OK, so it may be sold here so maybe the quality's not as good and that it will probably last only a couple of months or so. But what the heck, since we were too lazy to walk to Coles. So I put on the light bulb. *flicker*flicker* *oh the flickering went off*. OK - not too bad, although not as bright as I would have liked. Five minutes later and mum yells out to me to come check out the light and it's glowing orange. What THE! And 5 minutes after that, the light went from orange to purple, to ..... nothing. 4. How to solve cryptic crosswords. The cryptics have always been abit of a puzzler to me and I've never really gotten the concept. Mum's been trying to teach me, in between the laughing at my inability to understand! I'm starting to get the hang of it now (after the occassional peaks at the solutions *hehe*), so I'll show you! *hrmph* I hate traffic jams18.3.07There's almost always only one explanation for a traffic jam during off-peak hours in KL. We can usually safely assume that there's been an accident up ahead. And we'd be blaming the nosey malaysians for slowing down, to take a look (and not helping), and causing a massive jam. We'd also usually be guilty of being one of those nosey malaysians. At 6.30pm on a Saturday evening, you would expect the freeways to be fairly clear and empty. But instead, it was Monday morning 8.30am. I expected that there may have been a booze bus (unlikely) or roadworks, but unexpectedly, it was just a minor accident on the side of the road. *grrr* And all these cars were slowing down, causing a jam from 5kms away. So i learnt yesterday that the nosey-ness isn't just an asian-malaysian quality! Girl Time11.3.07So grateful for the long weekend. And to think that Easter is only around the corner as well.I've forgotten how nice it is to spend time with girl friends. Even greater - childhood girl friends. pigging out on prawn tempura sushi; going into the quaint little jewellery stores and boutiques in the laneways of Melbourne; t-shirts, t-shirts and more t-shirts - john so is my bro, i love sleeping, you look hotter on myspace; hunting for a birthday gift for your sister's boyfriend - only to end up buying yourself presents; corporate wardrobe shopping + encouraging each other to buy unnecesary jackets because it looks so good; and of course, the good ol' catching up with each other. I may have returned home with a blister on the sole of my foot from all that walking, but all worth it. |
