There is a certain kind of skewed misconception that is associated with the insurance industry. Furthermore so with life insurance. People tend to give you a rather blank look when it comes up, or completely avoid you. Which is rather understandable, since you are afterall talking about matters of life and death.

So you can imagine how working in the industry - dealing with mortality and morbidity rates on a daily basis - can potentially turn someone into a rather morbid person. You are forced to think about the worst possible outcomes, to see the worst in people - what if more people die than expected? what if the mine collapses? what if the plane crashes?

Maybe all of this has turned me into a more pessimistic person. And maybe it explains why at times when a little faith and hope is needed, I struggle to bring that. Wondering only about the worst outcomes, and reacting to that.
